The red varieties include Sangiovese, Shiraz, and all five of the varieties traditionally used in producing Bordeaux blends: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot, the latter two varieties being unique in the district.

We chose Barton Estate as our label firstly because of our central location in the Canberra Cool Climate region and secondly because the name of our first prime minister reflects the heritage of the property and the National Capital as a whole. Our logo or icon mystifies many: what is it? It is a ventilated dome which crowns the roof of our 100 year old woolshed and symbolises our commitment to reaching the pinnacle of cool climate wine production.

While we have made small experimental batches of wine since 1999, 2002 was our first commercial vintage. Our wines were successfully shown at the Canberra District Wine show for the first time in 2003 and have continued to be awarded a spectrum of medals after every release. Our passion is to bring together the science of viticulture and winemaking with the art and mystique which surrounds a truly great wine.
